Overview
Just a 30-minute drive from Alicante, there is a town called Elche very charming place to walk around
Elche has three World Heritage Sites, the largest palm grove in Europe, the Misteri d’Elx and the Puçol Educational Project and Museum.
- The Palm Grove in Elche is the largest European palm grove, covering an area of over 5 square kilometers. The town and its surroundings are home to over 200 thousand palm trees. Palm Grove consists of several palm groves: the City Park, Huerto del Cura, and Huerto de San Plácido. Predominantly, you’ll find date palms here, including some intriguing specimens that are over 300 years old!
The most beautiful and well-maintained palm park is Huerto del Cura. It’s a genuine botanical garden where, apart from palm trees, medicinal plants, flowers, and cacti from all corners of the world thrive. Peacocks stroll through the park, and carp swim in the pond. We’ll take a walk through the city’s palm parks and visit a cozy botanical garden that was lovingly and carefully cultivated by Priest José María Castaño throughout his life. In memory of the garden’s creator, the botanical garden is named “Priest’s Orchard,” Huerto del Cura.
