Salinas La Mata and Torrevieja

Salinas La Mata and Torrevieja

Located on the Costa Blanca, the Natural Park of La Mata and Torrevieja Salt Lakes is one of the most interesting wetlands in the province of Alicante. In addition, it combines spectacular salt lagoons, a great diversity of waterbirds and migratory species, cycling routes, and a tourist train.

A paradise for birdwatching

The La Mata and Torrevieja lagoons are a key spot for birdwatching throughout the year. In this wetland you can observe species such as flamingos, grebes, black-winged stilts, avocets, terns and shelducks, which use the lagoons as feeding and resting areas.

The best time of day to enjoy birdwatching is early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when birds are more active and easier to observe without disturbance. Bringing binoculars or a camera with a good zoom will make the experience even more rewarding.

Clothing and footwear
Whether walking, cycling or taking the tourist train, it is advisable to wear comfortable footwear, sun protection and bring water, as many areas of the park are exposed to the sun.
